I always believed that life is a big challenge, one day you are here, another day you wake up and suddenly the whole story changes, but remember that life is about how you face your challenges.

I was born in the north of Peru, in a town called Cajamarca, in my country they say that if you are not from the capital you are not COOL, what a shame!

I grew up believing this; I left my city when I was a little girl, but I have always held fond memories of the quaint little artisan jewelry shops in the town full of gold and silver. As a city where the only source of income is mining, you can imagine how many of these stores end up showing up.

When I moved to Lima, I always kept my secret under wraps. When people asked me where I was from, I always said Lima, but why does it have to be bad to have been born in another city? Is it just by chance or is there a reason the universe put you there for some purpose?

There’s things that you probably don’t realize when you are a child, but my thoughts always drifted back to the quaint shops with all these jewels and all the amazing goldsmith pieces of the Inca empire that I learned in my history class. I also remember my 7 block walk from college just to see the little shops where they sold gold and jewels and always wanting the “weeklies: from my aunt (7 bracelets that represent every day of the week).

When I was 21 years old I had my wrist full of bracelets, but I was met with some harsh opinions. “You look like a museum”, “you look like the lord of Sipán” (an ancient ruler). But it didn’t matter to me. To be honest I loved to wear jewelry. It has a deeper meaning for me.

By the time I left Peru for France, I was no longer wearing my bracelets as French fashion invaded me. Having Cartier bracelets was the new thing, but what is meaningless jewelry? I would rather have a simple jewel with deep meaning.

After years in the fashion industry, I decided to interview for my first jewelry job. I was overjoyed to get it! The most joyous part was learning about the stones. At that time, I was not familiar with the properties of stones, only with the beauty and the value. When I learned about stones and their meaning, I began to understand the importance of wearing a piece of jewelry with meaning. W

When you wear something that has some meaning for you, you are available to connect with your stone and when you begin to connect is when the magic happens.

This is because you are giving it energy and the stone also responds to you with energy, so you are available to feel the connection. You only need to believe to feel it.

Now I am miles away from the city where I was born, but I no longer feel ashamed. I feel grateful for this beautiful town and the artisans. I understand the purpose of the universe and I feel more grateful that I was born there, because where else would I be if I was not here doing what I love?

I really believe that the purpose in life is to find what you really love and to make it part of your life. These memories never died and manifested my dreams. It is very important not to judge and not to listen to what society says; be who you really are, do what you love, and don’t follow the standards of society. It took me more than two decades to realize this, but for now I want to share this to you; do what you love and wear it with meaning.
